The conduct of a census for 2022 is authorized by the Government of Belize through a statutory Instrument passed by parliament. The mandate for the conduct of a census falls under the direction of the Statistical Institute of Belize (SIB) by way of the Statistics Act, 2006 and the conduct and implementation of the 2022 Census is the responsibility of the Institute.
A census of the population and households is conducted in Belize once every ten years. This exercise is designed to provide a detailed and accurate count of the population at census day and to report results in a timely manner to the government and all stakeholders. Results from the 2022 Census will be used to generate baseline indicators to be used in decision making by government and stakeholders over the next ten years.
The 2022 Population and Housing Census will be conducted over an eight-week period from May to July 2022, starting on Census Day, May 12th.
