As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the conduct of Belize’s Population and Housing Census was postponed from May 2020 to 2022.   Consequently, the Statistical Institute of Belize is in the process of planning for the relaunching of census activities such as publicity and recruitment, in preparation for training of field staff and enumeration next year.

The main objective of the 2022 Population and Housing Census is to count the resident population of Belize. In addition, it seeks to collect information on its structure, main socioeconomic and cultural characteristics, and its distribution. Similarly, the Census seeks to count the total number of households and their characteristics. It is the Institute’s aim to improve its use of mobile technology and geospatial innovations in the collection of data.
