Today, the Statistical Institute of Belize published its latest statistics on the consumer price index, external trade, and the consumer confidence index for April 2026.
Consumer Price Index
Data from the Statistical Institute of Belize’s monthly Consumer Price Index (CPI) survey indicated that, in April 2026, the All-Items CPI, which measures overall price levels across categories of consumer goods and services, stood at 123.2. This marked an increase from 119.6 in April 2025, reflecting a national inflation rate of 2.9 percent for the month.
The year-to-date inflation rate for the first four months of the year stood at 1.4 percent, reflecting increases across most major CPI categories compared to the same period last year. The largest contributor was a 1.7 percent increase in ‘Food and Non- Alcoholic Beverages’, driven by higher prices for meats, sugar, instant coffee, fruit and vegetable juices, purified water, and soft drinks. This was followed by a 1.3 percent rise in ‘Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels’, reflecting mainly higher electricity tariffs.

Merchandise Trade
In April 2026, Belize imported $268.0 million in merchandise, up 21.0 percent or $46.4 million from April 2025 ($221.5 million). For the first four months of 2026, total imports reached $1.1 billion, an increase of 17.6 percent or $160.7 million compared to $914.3 million in the same period of 2025.
Domestic exports in April 2026 totaled $42.8 million, a decrease of 4.1 percent or $1.9 million from April 2025 ($44.6 million). From January to April 2026, exports stood at $108.2 million, down 7.2 percent, or $8.4 million, from $116.6 million in the same period last year.

Consumer Confidence Index
The national Consumer Confidence Index (CCI) stood at 44.0 in April 2026, down 3.7 percent from 45.7 in March 2026. This continues the downward trend observed since the beginning of the year, reflecting weakening consumer sentiment driven by declines in both the ‘Expectations’ and ‘Present’ components.
