Today, the Statistical Institute of Belize published its latest statistics on the consumer price index, external trade, and the consumer confidence index for July 2026.
Consumer Price Index
The Statistical Institute of Belize’s monthly Consumer Price Index (CPI) survey indicated that, for July 2026, the All-items CPI, which measures price levels across all categories of regularly purchased consumer goods and services, stood at 125.3. This was up from 120.4 recorded in July 2025, indicating an overall national inflation rate of 4.1 percent for the month.
The year-to-date inflation rate for the first seven months of 2026, compared to the same period in 2025, stood at 2.7 percent. Prices were up across most of the major CPI categories during this period, with the overall rise being driven largely by three key categories: ‘Transport’, which increased by 6.3 percent; ‘Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages’, which rose by 2.1 percent; and ‘Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels’, which was up by 2.6 percent. Together, these three categories accounted for almost three-fourths of the overall year-to-date increase in consumer prices.

Merchandise Trade
Belize’s total imports of goods for July 2026 were valued at $261.3 million, down 1.9 percent, or $5.0 million, from $266.3 million in July 2025. Nonetheless, there were notable increases in imports of ‘Mineral Fuels and Lubricants’ and ‘Machinery and Transport Equipment’ during the month. Merchandise imports for the first seven months of the year, January to July 2026, amounted to $1.912 billion, an increase of 15.7 percent or $259.7 million from $1.653 billion recorded for the same period in 2025.
Domestic exports for the month of July 2026 totaled $38.5 million, down by 37.2 percent or $22.8 million when compared to July 2025, when exports were valued at $61.3 million. Merchandise exports for the period January to July 2026 totaled $205.2 million, a decrease of 18.6 percent or $47.0 million from $252.1 million recorded for the same period in 2025.
