• About SIB

The Statistical Institute of Belize (SIB) was established on April 1, 2007, replacing the Central Statistical Office as the national statistical agency of Belize. The primary functions of SIB are to collect, compile, extract, analyse and release official statistics pertaining to the demographic, social, environmental, economic and general activities and conditions of Belize on an impartial basis and in accordance with professional standards and ethics. The SIB is governed by a board of directors, with representation from the government and non-government sectors. The SIB has its headquarters in Belmopan and maintains offices in Belize City, Corozal Town, Orange Walk Town, and Punta Gorda Town.

The primary functions of the Statistical Institute of Belize are to collect, analyse and disseminate representative information about the economic, demographic, gender, social and environmental situation in Belize, subject to the principles of reliability, objectivity, transparency and confidentiality.

As the sole body having authority to approve, monitor and coordinate the processes of data collection, compilation and analyses by any public body, the SIB is the only authorized Institute which can approve the official status of any data published by any other public body.

In addition to the regular production of the key information and indicators, the SIB offers additional statistics-related services upon request and by special arrangements.
