The Statistical Institute of Belize, in partnership with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), hosted a one-day workshop on Thursday, August 10, 2017, for partner agencies of the Belize National Statistical System. The purpose of the workshop was to review and obtain stakeholder feedback on the design of the country’s first ever National Strategy for the Development of Statistics (NSDS).
The NSDS provides a comprehensive roadmap for the building of a reliable national statistical system which is able to produce the data needed to plan, implement and monitor national development programs and policies, as well as meet the country’s various data obligations. It allows for a focused approach to addressing the deficiencies and gaps that exist within the present statistical system.
This event was the third in a series of NSS workshops funded by the IDB over the past year. Previous workshops served to sensitize relevant stakeholders to the NSS and to develop set of well-defined indicators to be produced by the NSS. All three workshops were facilitated by Ms. Sonia Jackson, IDB consultant and former Director General of the Statistical Institute of Jamaica.
