Today, the Statistical Institute of Belize published its latest statistics on the gross domestic product for the 4th quarter of 2026, the consumer price index, external trade, and the consumer confidence index for February 2026.
Gross Domestic Product
The Statistical Institute of Belize’s preliminary Gross Domestic Product (GDP) estimates for the fourth quarter of October to December 2025 indicated that the value of goods and services produced within the country totalled $1.396 billion for that period. This was an increase of $63.3 million, or 4.7 percent, compared with the $1.333 billion produced during the fourth quarter of 2024.

Consumer Price Index
Data from the Statistical Institute of Belize’s monthly Consumer Price Index (CPI) survey indicated that, for February 2026, the All-Items CPI, which summarizes price levels across all categories of consumer goods and services, stood at 120.6. This represents an increase from 119.8 in February 2025, reflecting an overall national inflation rate of 0.7 percent for the month.
The year-to-date inflation rate for the first two months of 2026, compared with the first two months of 2025, stood at 0.4 percent on average. Most major CPI categories recorded increases during this period; however, the overall year-to-date inflation was driven primarily by higher prices for ‘Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages’ (1.2 percent), ‘Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels’ (0.9 percent), ‘Restaurants and Accommodation Services’ (2.3 percent), and ‘Health’ (3.8 percent).

Merchandise Trade
Belize’s total merchandise imports for February 2026 were valued at $214.6 million. This was a decrease of 1.7 percent or $3.8 million from February 2025, when imports were valued at $218.4 million. Merchandise imports for the first two months of the year, January to February 2026, amounted to $485.7 million, representing a 5.3 percent or $24.7 million increase from $461.0 million recorded during the same period of 2025.
Total domestic exports for February 2026 amounted to $20.5 million, down 12.9 percent, or $3.0 million, from February 2025, when exports were valued at $23.5 million. Merchandise exports for the period January to February 2026 totaled $40.0 million, down 2.0 percent or $0.8 million from the first two months of 2025, when exports were valued at $40.8 million.

Consumer Confidence Index
The national Consumer Confidence Index (CCI) stood at 47.8 in February 2026, a slight 1.0 percent decrease from 48.3 in January 2026. This overall decline in the second month of the year followed a slight increase in January, as consumer sentiment continued to hover just below the optimistic threshold.
