PRESS RELEASE
Official Launch of UB’s Bachelor of Science in Statistics and Certificate in Geographic Information Systems Programs
Belize City, November 8, 2018 – The University of Belize (UB), in partnership with the Statistical Institute of Belize (SIB) and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), today officially launched its new bachelor’s degree in Statistics and Certificate in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Programs at the Radisson Fort George Hotel in Belize City.
These two new academic programs were developed jointly, through technical assistance provided by the IDB under its project for the strengthening of the Belize National Statistical System. Both the bachelor’s degree in Statistics and Certificate in GIS are intended to build the existing capacity of the agencies that comprise the NSS as well as generate a well-trained pool of future employees for the public and private sector alike. In addition, the IDB has provided funding for full tuition scholarships to be awarded to three persons, two for the Statistics program and one for the GIS program.
The event saw the participation of 56 stakeholders, including secondary schools, tertiary institutions, private sector, and various government and quasi-government agencies from the National Statistical System. Informative presentations on both programs, the admissions procedures for the University and the application process for the three IDB-funded scholarships were made.
Applications are now being accepted for both the bachelor’s degree in Statistics and Certificate in GIS programs. Interested persons may contact the Office of Admissions at UB at 822-2680/81 Ext. 471 or admissions@ub.edu.bz.
