Today, the Statistical Institute of Belize published its latest statistics on the consumer price index, external trade, and 4th quarter Gross Domestic Product.
Consumer Price Index
Figures released by the Institute show that the All-Items Consumer Price Index for February 2018 stood at 104.5, a decrease from 105.1 in February 2017. On average, during this month in 2018, the prices of goods and services regularly purchased by Belizean households were 0.5 percent lower than they were in the same month of 2017. For the first two months of 2018, a year-to-date inflation rate of 0.2 percent was recorded.

Merchandise Trade
In February 2018, Belize imported goods valuing $136.8 million. This represented a 2.6 percent or $3.7 million decrease from the same month last year. Merchandise imports for the first two months of 2018 totaled $280.9 million, representing a 1.6 percent or $4.3 million increase from the same period last year.
The total value of Belize’s domestic exports for February 2018 was $22.8 million, down 11.6 percent or nearly $3 million from the $25.8 million recorded for February 2017. Merchandise exports for the period January to February 2018 totaled $48.5 million, down $11.8 million from the same period last year.

Gross Domestic Product
For the three months from October to December 2017, Belize’s economy saw a 2.8 percent increase in the overall level of production when compared to the same period in 2016. The total value of goods and services produced in Belize was $695.8 million, up $19.1 million from $676.7 million produced in the fourth quarter of 2016.
