Consumer Price Index
Figures released by the Institute show that the All-Items Consumer Price Index for March 2020 stood at 105.4, an increase of 0.2 percent from 105.2 in March 2019. On average, during this month in 2020, the prices of goods and services regularly purchased by Belizean households were 0.2 percent higher than they were in the same month of 2019. While higher prices were seen for items such as home rental costs, international airfares and tertiary education fees, the effect of these were balanced off by lower prices for several food items, Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) and fuel. The cumulative inflation rate for the first three months of 2020, when compared to the same period in 2019, stood at 0.3 percent.

Merchandise Trade
In March 2020, Belize imported goods valuing $174.1 million. This represented an 18.2 percent or $26.8 million increase from the same month last year. Merchandise imports for the first three months of this year, January to March 2020, amounted to $485.3 million, representing a 6.7 percent or $30.3 million increase from the same period last year.
The total value of Belize’s domestic exports for March 2020 was 26.7 million, up 2.6 percent, or $0.7 million from the almost $26 million recorded for March 2019. Merchandise exports for the period January to March 2020 totaled $62.5 million, down 31.7 percent, or nearly $29 million from the same period of last year.
