FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Validation Session for the 2024 TASC Assessment Results
BELIZE CITY, BELIZE, January 31, 2025 – The Statistical Institute of Belize (SIB), in collaboration with the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), is hosting a validation session today at the Belize Institute of Management in Belize City to present and review the results of the 2024 Tool for Assessing Statistical Capacity (TASC) assessment. This landmark session marks a critical step in advancing the statistical capabilities of Belize’s National Statistical System (NSS).
The TASC is an innovative self-assessment tool developed by the U.S. Census Bureau that evaluates a country’s statistical capacity to produce and disseminate essential data. During the initial workshop held on November 26, 2024, representatives from key data-producing agencies assessed various aspects of Belize’s NSS, including Institutional Capacity, Data Processing, and Data Dissemination. Today’s session brings together stakeholders to validate these findings and collaboratively outline the next steps for addressing identified gaps and opportunities.
This validation session aims to:
- Present and confirm the findings of the 2024 TASC assessment.
- Discuss identified strengths and areas for improvement.
- identify actionable recommendations to enhance statistical capacity within the NSS.
The outcomes of the validation session will shape future initiatives, including the development of a comprehensive training plan for NSS agencies, the implementation of quarterly training programs, and the establishment of a Quality Assurance Framework to enhance data quality and comparability across the NSS.
Today’s discussions underscore the importance of collaboration among Belize’s data producers to foster a culture of data-driven decision-making. The SIB remains committed to supporting the NSS through coordinated efforts that strengthen the nation’s statistical infrastructure and advance Belize’s development goals.
