The University of Belize and the Statistical Institute of Belize sign Memorandum of Understanding
Belmopan City, Cayo, May 2, 2024 – The University of Belize (UB) and the Statistical Institute of Belize (SIB) are pleased to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for institutional cooperation. This MOU marks a significant milestone in the long-standing collaborative relationship between these two institutions.
Established in 2000, the University of Belize upholds a strong commitment to excellence in higher education, and academic research aimed at national development. With a diverse and dedicated faculty, the University of Belize continues to be a beacon of knowledge and progress in the region.
The Statistical Institute of Belize (SIB) serves as Belize’s official national statistical office, as established by the Statistical Institute of Belize Act of 2006. Its core mandate includes collecting, compiling, extracting, analyzing, and publishing official statistics on Belize’s people, housing stock, and social and economic conditions. The SIB is also the country’s primary source of high-quality, nationally representative data for use in analytical research projects.
The involved parties will collaborate in coordinating and executing various activities such as seminars, workshops, training sessions, conferences, presentations, research initiatives, and mentorship programs that are in line with their shared objectives. The aim is to encourage active participation from both institutions in each other’s activities and programs, facilitate the exchange of information, create opportunities for research, teaching, and training internships, promote public awareness, and enable data sharing for research purposes.
