Today, the SIB completed its training of trainers for the upcoming 2022 Population and Housing Census. The training commenced on February 14th with twenty-seven persons participating in the program. Most participants were permanent staff from various departments within the Institute who will be posted in the major municipalities across the country to oversee the conduct of the Census.
Over the course of two and a half weeks, trainers received an in-depth review of the Census questionnaires and their responsibilities as senior supervisors in the various regional Census offices. Given that the 2022 Census will be conducted using Computer Assisted Personal Interviewing (CAPI), several days were dedicated to utilizing the various computer applications that will be utilized in the Census. Trainees also got hands-on experience conducting Census interviews during a full day of field practice.
The persons trained during this first round of training will be tasked with training those recruited as Field Supervisors during March. Field Supervisors will in turn conduct the final round of training in April, during which around 800 enumerators will be prepared for data collection. All enumerators will be trained concurrently in groups of up to 25 trainees spread across 34 training centers throughout the country’s six districts. The training will address the questionnaire’s content and essential information technology applications. All training sessions cover COVID-19 safety protocols that all Census staff must adhere to during data collection.
Census Day for the 2022 Population and Housing Census will be observed on May 12th, and data collection will commence the following day on May 13th for ten weeks. During this period, information will be collected on all buildings and usual residents in the country. The Institute seeks the participation of the public in the Census by responding to the questionnaires that will be administered by trained enumerators.
