The University of Belize, in partnership with the Statistical Institute of Belize (SIB), announced the establishment its new Bachelors of Science Degree in Statistics (BSTA) Program at the SIB’s press conference held on Wednesday, June 27, 2018.
This program was designed by the University of Belize along with Dr. Godfrey St. Bernard, University of the West Indies professor and technical consultant provided by the Inter-American Development Bank. Prior to the creation of the BSTA, Dr. St. Bernard conducted an in-depth analysis of the level of statistical capacity and training needs within the agencies of the National Statistical System (NSS).This consultancy was part of the IDB’s larger technical cooperation program to support the development and strengthening of the country’s National Statistical System, an initiative which commenced in 2016 and continues into 2019.
The BSTA will provide students with fundamental knowledge and skills related to harnessing official statistics, research design, design and analysis of surveys, probability, mathematical statistics, data analysis, and statistical computing. This first of its kind program is designed for persons already working in agencies that make up the NSS as well as those who are interested in pursuing a career in the field of official statistics. Additionally, the program has great potential within the CARICOM region since no similar program exists regionally. Courses will be offered in the evenings and weekends if needed, to accommodate working students.
The University of Belize is now accepting applications for the Bachelors of Science Degree in Statistics. For more information click below:
