Today marks the 15th anniversary of the Statistical Institute of Belize’s founding. The Statistical Institute of Belize (SIB) maintains its mission to provide Belize with the highest degree of integrity, quality, and strict adherence to professional and international standards, accurate and timely statistical information to facilitate effective policy and decision-making. The SIB reaffirms its commitment to collect, analyze, and disseminate statistics of national interest and coordinate and promote the development of the National Statistical System to meet the information needs of our country and our international partners.
Throughout these past fifteen years, the SIB has made significant strides toward the modernization of statistics in Belize. By recognizing the importance of reliable, timely, and quality data for informed decision-making, the SIB has continuously enhanced and expanded its data collection, analysis, and dissemination efforts by adapting the latest technologies and the most rigorous and proven statistical procedures and methods. The 2022 Population and Housing Census will be the first of its kind, as the information will be collected digitally, which will allow the SIB to process and analyze the data in record time. Another significant milestone in these past fifteen years is the appointment of the SIB’s first female Acting Director-General, Mrs. Diana Castillo-Trejo.
The SIB would like to thank the public for their cooperation, invaluable contributions, and participation in our data collection activities. Additionally, we appreciate the support of our local and international partners in statistics for their support during these past fifteen years.
Finally, we would like to take this opportunity to once again ask for your support by participating in the upcoming 2022 Population and Housing Census. Your responses will assist in planning for schools, hospitals, roads, utilities, and other essential services for your community. So in May, when we knock on your door, tell us, “count me in.”
