FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SIB HOSTS SPECIALIZED TRAINING IN DEMOGRAPHIC ANALYSIS
BELMOPAN CITY, BELIZE, June 20, 2025 – The Statistical Institute of Belize (SIB), with support from the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), is hosting a three-day workshop on Demographic Analysis Using Census Data from June 17-19, 2025, at the SIB Headquarters in Belmopan.
This workshop is funded under KOICA’s “Enabling of Belize’s Statistical System” (EBSS) project and aims to enhance the technical capacity of SIB’s staff in demographic analysis.
Facilitated by consultant Enrique Peláez, the training targets statisticians involved in demographic work. It covers key topics such as mortality and fertility trends, migration patterns, population projections, and the implications of an aging population, with a special emphasis on policy frameworks, including the Montevideo Consensus on Population and Development.
During the three-day workshop, participants will build competence in computing, interpreting, and applying demographic indicators from the 2022 Census Round and vital statistics. These skills are essential for supporting evidence-based planning aligned with Belize’s national priorities and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The SIB reaffirms its dedication to providing quality, objective, and timely information for national development and looks forward to ongoing collaboration with partners and stakeholders to enhance Belize’s statistical capacity.
