The Statistical Institute of Belize (SIB) today commenced training for its upcoming September Labour Force Survey (LFS). Training will take place from August 24th- September 3rd and a total of 38 interviewers and 9 editors will be participating. In response to the increasing number of COVID-19 cases, the SIB has adapted its method of training, from face-to-face to virtual training using Zoom.
Similar measures are being put in place to facilitate the collection of data for the Labour Force Survey, which is scheduled to commence on September 6th and will last approximately four weeks. Under normal circumstances, the SIB collects data through face-to-face interviews; however, for the September round of the LFS, interviewers will be administering the questionnaire mainly through telephone interviews. Field work will be done only in cases where the interviewer is unable to contact a household by phone and only where it is deemed safe to do so.
This is the first time the SIB will be conducting virtual training for its survey staff and the first time utilizing this mode of data collection; however, this is the most viable option at this time to minimize physical contact.
