Yesterday, the Statistical Institute of Belize published its latest statistics on the consumer price index, external trade, and the consumer confidence index for January 2026.
Consumer Price Index
For January 2026, the Statistical Institute of Belize’s monthly Consumer Price Index (CPI) survey showed that the All-Items CPI, which summarizes price levels across all categories of consumer goods and services, stood at 119.86. This was an increase from 119.81 reported in January 2025, reflecting a national inflation rate of 0.04 percent.

Merchandise Trade
Belize’s total imports of goods for January 2026 were valued at $271.0 million. This represented an increase of 11.7 percent or $28.5 million from January 2025, when imports were valued at $242.6 million. Most commodity categories recorded increased imports for the month, with ‘Machinery and Transport Equipment’ being the largest contributor to the overall rise. In contrast, ‘Manufactured Goods’ registered the most significant decline.
Total domestic exports for January 2026 amounted to $19.5 million, up by 12.7 percent or $2.2 million when compared to exports from January 2025, which were valued at $17.3 million.

Consumer Confidence Index
The national Consumer Confidence Index (CCI) stood at 48.3 in January 2026, up 0.9 percent from 47.9 in December 2025. The year began with modest improvement in national consumer sentiment, primarily driven by gains in the ‘Present’ and ‘Durable Goods’ subcomponents, and continuing the generally upward trend seen since November 2025.
