Today, the Statistical Institute of Belize published its latest statistics on the consumer price index, external trade, and the consumer confidence index for December 2025.
Consumer Price Index
The Statistical Institute of Belize’s monthly Consumer Price Index (CPI) survey indicated that, for December 2025, the All-Items CPI, which measures price levels across all categories of regularly purchased consumer goods and services, stood at 120.5. This was an increase from 120.0 recorded in December 2024, reflecting a national inflation rate of 0.3 percent. The national annual inflation rate in 2025 was 1.1 percent. Although most major CPI categories recorded increases during the year, the main contributors to the overall rise in consumer prices were ‘Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages’ (1.6 percent), ‘Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels’ (2.0 percent), ‘Restaurants and Accommodation Services’ (2.1 percent), and ‘Personal Care, Social Protection and Miscellaneous Goods and Services’ (2.5 percent).

Merchandise Trade
Belize’s total merchandise imports for December 2025 were valued at $271.4 million. This represented an increase of 17.7 percent or $40.7 million from December 2024, when imports were valued at $230.7 million. Merchandise imports for the year 2025 amounted to $2.911 billion, representing a marginal 0.06 percent increase, or $1.6 million, from $2.909 billion recorded during the year 2024.
Total domestic exports for the month of December 2025 amounted to $24.5 million, down by 68.2 percent or $52.5 million, when compared to exports for December 2024, which were valued at $77.0 million. Merchandise exports for the year 2025 totaled $390.0 million, down 16.0 percent or $74.0 million from 2024, when annual exports were valued at $464.2 million.

Consumer Confidence Index
The national Consumer Confidence Index (CCI) stood at 47.9 in December 2025, down slightly by 0.7 percent from 48.2 in November 2025. Notwithstanding this month-to-month decline, consumer sentiment remained slightly higher than earlier in the year, the result of the notable increase seen in November.
