Today, the Statistical Institute of Belize published its latest statistics on the consumer price index, external trade, and the consumer confidence index for April 2025.
Consumer Price Index
Results from the Statistical Institute of Belize’s monthly Consumer Price Index (CPI) survey indicated that, for the month of April 2025, the All-Items CPI, which measures overall price levels across consumer goods and services, stood at 119.6. This marked an increase from 118.1 in April 2024, reflecting a national inflation rate of 1.3 percent for the month and a continued gradual slowdown in the rate at which consumer prices have been rising. The year-to-date inflation rate for the first four months of the year
2025, when compared to the same period in 2024, stood at 1.6 percent.

Merchandise Trade
Belize’s total imports for the month of April 2025 were valued at $221.5 million. This was a notable decrease of 16 percent or $42.3 million from April 2024, when imports were valued at $263.8 million. Merchandise imports for the first four months, January to April of 2025, amounted to $914.3 million. This represented a 7.1 percent or $69.9 million decrease from $984.3 million recorded in the same period last year.
Total domestic exports for April 2025 amounted to $44.5 million, down 21.9 percent or $12.4 million when compared to exports for April 2024, which were valued at $56.9 million. Merchandise exports for the period January to April 2025 totaled $115.9 million, down 6.9 percent or $8.6 million from the same period last year, when exports were valued at $124.5 million.

Consumer Confidence Index
For the month of April 2025, the national Consumer Confidence Index (CCI) stood at 47.7, representing a 3.8 percent decrease from a near-optimistic 49.6 in March 2025 (see Figure 1). This decline was indicative of a somewhat volatile but general downward movement in consumer confidence since the start of this year. Reduced sentiment was seen across all three subcomponents of the CCI over the one-month period.
