Belmopan. March 26, 2020. The Belize Solid Waste Management Authority (BSWaMA) informs the public that the operational transfer stations in Belize City, San Pedro, Ambergris Caye, Caye Caulker, San Ignacio/Santa Elena and Burrell Boom remain open for the reception of waste.
To safeguard human health and wellbeing, and to support the entities that provide waste collection service, the BSWaMA appeals to the public to exercise caution with respect to the management of waste generated within the household.
The BSWaMA requests that the following be done:
- Ensure that all waste is properly bagged reducing and limiting exposure to the waste materials by collectors;
- Place waste such as used tissue, wipes, paper hand towels, diapers, used gloves, and other hygiene products in double bags;
- Set out waste for collection only on the designated collection day and if possible close to the routine collection time; and
- Secure waste properly to limit access by stray animals and rodents.
Individuals wishing to access the transfer stations and the sanitary landfill are reminded that they are required to follow the instructions given by the operations personnel and to practise the prescribed precautionary measures while on the compound.
