Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Conducts 5-Day Training on Food Insecurity Experience Scale (FIES) and Sustainable Development Goal Indicator (SDG) 2.1.2 Analysis
Belmopan City, Cayo, May 8, 2024 – The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), in collaboration with the Statistical Institute of Belize (SIB), is conducting a 5-day training workshop on the Food Insecurity Experience Scale (FIES) and Sustainable Development Goal Indicator (SDG) 2.1.2 analysis from April 6th to 10th at the Central Information Technology Office in Belmopan.
Developed by the FAO, the FIES is a pivotal methodology for assessing access to food at the household or individual level within populations. The main goal of the workshop is to enhance the capacity of SIB’s staff to utilize the FIES analytic procedure, specifically in calculating the occurrence of moderate to severe, and severe food insecurity using the Rasch model framework. The session provides a comprehensive overview of the FIES technique, highlighting its importance in shaping food security strategies.
Additionally, the FAO and SIB will collaborate in producing a report on Food Insecurity using data from the 2022 Population and Housing Census. The report is scheduled for publication during the second half of this year.
