Today, the Statistical Institute of Belize published its latest statistics, the gross domestic product for the 2nd quarter of 2025, the consumer price index, external trade, and the consumer confidence index for August 2025.
Gross Domestic Product
Preliminary Gross Domestic Product (GDP) estimates for the second quarter months of April to June 2025 indicated that the value of goods and services produced in Belize totalled $1.375 billion. This was an increase of $10.7 million or 0.8 percent, when compared to the $1.365 billion recorded during the second quarter of 2024.

Consumer Price Index
The Statistical Institute of Belize’s monthly Consumer Price Index (CPI) survey indicated that, for the month of August 2025, the All-items CPI, which measures price levels across all categories of regularly purchased consumer goods and services, stood at 120.7. This was an increase from 119.7 recorded in August 2024, indicating an overall national inflation rate of 0.8 percent. The year-to-date inflation rate for the first eight months of 2025, when compared to the same period in 2024, stood at 1.3 percent. Most of the major CPI categories recorded increases during this period, with the overall rise largely influenced by three key categories: ‘Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages’ which was up by 2.3 percent, ‘Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels’ which rose by 2.4 percent, and ‘Personal Care, Social Protection and Miscellaneous Goods and Services’ which increased by 3 percent.

Merchandise Trade
Belize’s total merchandise imports for the month of August 2025 were valued at $253.3 million. This was an increase of 15.5 percent or $34.1 million from August 2024, when imports were valued at $219.2 million. Merchandise imports for the first eight months of the year, January to August 2025, amounted to $1.906 billion, representing a 1.5 percent or $29.5 million decrease from $1.935 billion recorded during the same period in 2024.
Total domestic exports for the month of August 2025 amounted to $26.1 million, down by 40.3 percent or $17.7 million when compared to exports for August 2024, which were valued at $43.8 million. Merchandise exports for the period January to August 2025 totaled $277 million, down 10 percent or $30.9 million from the first eight months of last year, when exports were valued at $307.9 million.

Consumer Confidence Index
For the month of August 2025, the national Consumer Confidence Index (CCI) stood at 46.8, representing a 2.9 percent increase from 45.5 in July 2025 (see Figure 1). This marked the second consecutive monthly increase following the general downward trend observed earlier this year.
