Today, the Statistical Institute of Belize published its latest statistics on the consumer price index, external trade, and the consumer confidence index for March 2025.
Consumer Price Index
Data from the Statistical Institute of Belize’s monthly Consumer Price Index (CPI) survey indicated that, for the month of March 2025, the All-Items CPI, which measures overall price levels across consumer goods and services, stood at 119.7. This marked an increase from 118.0 in March 2024, reflecting a national inflation rate of 1.4 percent. The year-to-date inflation rate for the first three months of the year 2025, compared to the same period in 2024, stood at 1.7 percent. While most of the major CPI categories recorded an increase during this period, the overall rise was driven primarily by the ‘Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages’ (2.7 percent) and the ‘Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and other Fuels’ categories (2.2 percent).

Merchandise Trade
Belize’s total imports for the month of March 2025 were valued at $231.8 million. This was an increase of 5 percent or $11.1 million from March 2024, when imports were valued at $220.7 million. Merchandise imports for the first three months of the year, January to March 2025, amounted to $692.8 million. This represented a 3.8 percent or $27.7 million decrease, from $720.4 million recorded during the same period last year.
Total domestic exports for March 2025 amounted to $30.7 million, up by 3.4 percent or $1 million when compared to exports for March 2024, which were valued at $29.7 million. Merchandise exports for the period January to March 2025 totaled $71.5 million, up 5.8 percent or $3.9 million from the same period last year when exports were valued at $67.6 million.

Consumer Confidence Index
For the month of March 2025, the national Consumer Confidence Index (CCI) stood at an almost optimistic 49.6, an increase of 7.8 percent from 46.0 recorded in February 2025. This indicated a rebound in consumer confidence in March, following a decline in the overall CCI during the previous month. Improved sentiment was seen across all three components of the CCI, with the most notable increase seen in the Durable Goods sub-index
