Data from the most recent monthly Consumer Price Index (CPI) survey conducted by the Statistical Institute of Belize showed that in January 2023, the All-items CPI summarizes price levels for all consumer goods and services categories, stood at 112.4, up from 105.4 in January 2022. This indicates that the country saw an overall national inflation rate of 6.6 percent on goods and services typically bought by Belizean households. The primary driver of this increase was the ‘Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages’ category, which once again accounted for over half of the national inflation rate as food prices continued to rise rapidly. This was followed by ‘Transport,’ responsible for almost one-third of the inflation recorded for January, with fuel prices remaining higher than in the same month of 2022.

Merchandise Trade
Belize’s total imports for January 2023 were valued at $212.3 million. This was an increase of 11.4 percent or $21.8 million from imports of January 2022, which totaled $190.5 million.
Total domestic exports for January 2023 amounted to $24.5 million, up by 22 percent or $4.4 million from the $20 million recorded for January 2022.
