Results from the Statistical Institute of Belize’s most recent monthly Consumer Price Index (CPI) survey showed that, as of June 2021, the All-Items CPI, which summarizes all categories of goods and services, stood at 103.5, up from 100.5 in June 2020. The country experienced an overall national inflation rate of three percent, reflecting the fact that, on average, prices for items comprising the basket of goods and services commonly purchased by Belizean households were three percent higher than they were in June of last year. This was mainly the result of higher costs for motor vehicle fuels, food items, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and personal care products, with lower hotel accommodation rates partially offsetting the effects of these increases. The year-to-date or cumulative inflation rate for the first six months of 2021, when compared to the first six months in 2020, stood at two percent.

Merchandise Trade
During the month of June 2021, Belize’s imported goods were valued at $189.3 million, up significantly by 82.4 percent or $85.5 million from the $103.7 million imported in June of 2020. Merchandise imports for the period January to June 2021 totaled $949.5 million, representing a 19.6 percent or $155.8 million increase from the same period last year, when imports totaled $793.7 million.
Total domestic exports for June 2021 amounted to $28.2million, down by 33.1 percent or $13.9 million from the $42.1 million recorded for June of 2020. Merchandise exports for the period January to June 2020 totaled $200.4 million, up 4.8 percent or $9.2 million from that same period last year.
