The Statistical Institute of Belize (SIB) hereby informs its stakeholders and the general public, that a decision was made by Cabinet at its December 22nd meeting to postpone the conduct of the Population and Housing Census that was scheduled to commence on May 12th of this year, to May 2022.

The conduct of the Census requires field staff to visit each building in the country and carry out face-to-face interviews. Therefore, the decision to postpone this activity was made to support the enhanced efforts by the government to restrict the movement of people with the aim of minimizing the number of persons testing positive for COVID-19. The Institute wishes to emphasize that the health and safety of its staff and respondents continue to be of utmost importance, and it remains committed to doing its part to stem the spread of this virus.

The SIB will be restarting selected Census activities such as publicity and recruitment during the third quarter of this year, in preparation for training and enumeration next year.
