The Statistical Institute of Belize, the MSDCCDR, and ECLAC host workshop on Generating Climate Change and Disaster Indicators for Policy Decision-Making in Belize.
The Statistical Institute of Belize and the Ministry of Sustainable Development Climate Change and Disaster Risk Management held a three-day workshop on generating climate change and disaster indicators for policy decision-making at the Radisson Fort George Hotel and Marina from November 9th to November 11th, 2022. The workshop was facilitated by the Statistics Division and the Subregional Headquarters for the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) and was aimed at strengthening the capacity of technical personnel from various government ministries, Statistical Offices, and other Institutions that produce or use environment, climate change, and disaster risk management data.
The workshop was designed to educate participants on constructing selected environmental, climate change, and disaster indicators and their metadata, identifying data and capacity gaps necessary to develop an Environmental Information System (EIS), and building a regional resilience platform. Specifically, the objectives of the workshop were to: (1) review the current status of environmental, climate change, and disaster indicators in the region; (2) identify gaps in metadata, data collection, and analysis; and (3) train government officials on constructing selected environmental, climate change, and disaster indicators.
