Today, the Statistical Institute of Belize published its latest statistics on the consumer price index, external trade, and the 2nd quarter 2019 gross domestic product.
Consumer Price Index
Figures released by the Institute show that the All-Items Consumer Price Index stood at 104.8 in July 2019. A decrease of 0.2 percent from 105.0 in July 2018. This indicates that, on average, Belizean households experienced a very small decrease of 0.2 percent in the prices of regularly purchased goods and services. For the first seven months of 2019, a year-to-date inflation rate of -0.02 percent was recorded.

Merchandise Trade
In July 2019, Belize imported goods valuing $191.4 million. This represented a 15.6 percent or $25.8 million increase from the same month last year. Merchandise imports for the first seven months of 2019 totaled $1.1 billion, representing a 3.9 percent or $43 million increase from the same period last year.
The total value of Belize’s domestic exports for the month of July 2019 was $46 million, up 44.1 percent or $14.1 million from the $31.9 million recorded for July 2018. Merchandise exports for the period January to July 2019 totaled $252.5 million, down 1.5 percent or a little under $3.8 million from the same period last year.

Gross Domestic Product
For the second quarter of 2019, Belize’s economy saw a 0.8 percent decrease in the overall level of production when compared to the same period in 2018. The total value of goods and services produced in Belize was $687.9 million, down $5.8 million from $693.7 million produced in the second quarter of 2018.
