Consumer Price Index
Figures released by the Institute show that the All-Items Consumer Price Index for February 2020 stood at 105.5, an increase of 0.4 percent from 105.0 in February 2019. On average, during this month in 2020, the prices of goods and services regularly purchased by Belizean households were 0.4 percent higher than they were in the same month of 2019. Higher home rental costs, fuel prices, international airfares, and tertiary education fees were slightly off set by lower prices for Liquefi ed Petroleum Gas (LPG) and various food items. This resulted in a small overall increase in consumer prices observed for the month. The cumulative inflation rate for the first two months of 2020, when compared to the same period in 2019, stood at 0.3 percent.

Merchandise Trade
In February 2020, Belize imported goods valuing $150.5 million. This represented a 3.1 percent or $4.5 million increase from the same month last year. Merchandise imports for the first two months of this year, January to February 2020, amounted to $311.3 million, representing a 1.1 percent or $3.5 million increase from the same period last year.
The total value of Belize’s domestic exports for the month of February 2020 was 19.8 million, down 22.9 percent or $5.9 million from the $25.7 million recorded for February 2019. Merchandise exports for the period January to February 2020 totaled $35.8 million, down 45.3 percent or $29.7 million from the same period of last year.
