Consumer Price Index
Figures released by the Institute show that the All-Items Consumer Price Index for August 2019 stood at 104.6, a decrease of 0.7 percent from 105.4 in August 2018. On average, during this month in 2019, the prices of goods and services regularly purchased by Belizean households were 0.7 percent lower than they were in the same month of 2018. Higher prices for various food items, Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), electricity tariffs and tertiary education were off set by lower prices for home rentals, fuels, surgery fees and international airfares. The cumulative inflation rate for the first eight months of 2019, when compared to the same period in 2018, stood at -0.1 percent.

Merchandise Trade
In August 2019, Belize imported goods valuing $169.5 million. This represented a 1.7 percent or $3 million decrease from the same month last year. Merchandise imports for the period January to August 2019 totalled $1.3 billion, representing a 3.2 percent or $40 million increase from the same eight-month period last year.
The total value of Belize’s domestic exports for the month of August 2019 was $45.5 million, up 101.9 percent or almost $23 million from the $22.6 million recorded for August 2018. Merchandise exports for the period January to August 2019 totalled $298 million, up 6.9 percent or $19.2 million from that same period last year.
