FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SIB and PARIS21 Launch Consultation Sessions to Develop National Strategy for the Development of Statistics (NSDS) in Belize
Belmopan, May 16th, 2023 – Today, the Statistical Institute of Belize (SIB), with support from the Partnership in Statistics for Development in the 21st Century (PARIS21), commenced a series of consultation sessions with data producers and users from various agencies within the National Statistical System (NSS), to start the process of developing a National Strategy for the Development of Statistics (NSDS). The NSDS is a five-year strategic plan that will guide the development and strengthening of the production of statistics in the country to address the increased demand for data needed to monitor global, regional, and national development indicators.
The process of developing an NSDS involves three stages: The preliminary stage, the design stage and the deployment stage. The preliminary stage involves stakeholder engagements to increase awareness of the concepts, principles, methodologies and benefits of the NSDS process, and to establish the framework for the design and deployment of the strategy. The design stage assesses data needs, statistical capacity, defines strategic directions, and creates concrete action plans to address the needs of the national statistical system while the deployment stage implements the activities of the action plan. The success of the NSDS will rely heavily on the active participation of NSS partner agencies as well as the support of the government and other development partners to mobilize the necessary resources to implement the action plans for each sector.
The consultation sessions will continue throughout the week, with the aim of having the NSDS completed by the end of November of this year. The Institute is appreciative of the support from PARIS21 and the various partner agencies involved in this process.
