The Statistical Institute of Belize, in collaboration with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), held its first 2020 Population & Housing Census Stakeholder Consultation on Thursday, September 28, 2017 at the Radisson Fort George Hotel in Belize City. This half day event was a part of the various preparatory activities being undertaken by the SIB leading up to the upcoming 2020 Population and Housing Census.
The purpose of this consultation session was to sensitize stakeholders on the status of preparations for the 2020 Census round; raise awareness of the utility of census data for development in the context of the 2030 Agenda and regional and national development frameworks; apprise stakeholders of the technical and financial resources required for the 2020 Census Round in order to establish engagement, galvanize support, and identify appropriate strategies to address resource constraints; and to initiate discussions with data users to identify their needs with respect to census data as well as possibilities for future collaboration with the SIB.
Participants included representatives of the various government ministries and departments, NGOs, statutory bodies, international agencies, and the diplomatic corps. Stakeholders and the public are invited to continue engaging with the SIB as it moves forward with its preparations for the 2020 Census. Feedback and comments can be submitted via the Institute’s website or by contacting us directly via email at info@mail.sib.org.bz .
